Snowshoeing in the French Alps

  • Sunset snowshoeing
  • Snowshoeing in the Écrins
  • Snowshoeing with children

Between the Écrins National Park and the Vercors Regional Nature Park, our certified Nature and Mountain guides offer you authentic snowshoeing experiences in the heart of the French Southern Alps.

Floating above the snow on your own personal "magic carpet", the snowshoe lets you glide effortlessly through untouched landscapes far from the ski lifts and groomed trails.

A gentle pace, perfect for contemplating the beauty of nature: sunlit ridges, frosted forests, fresh animal tracks in the powder... At any moment, you might spot a chamois, roe deer, or black grouse while discovering the tranquil silence of the mountains.

Whether as a family, with friends, or for a team-building event, choose the format that suits you best: half-day, full day, sunset, or an overnight stay with snowshoes and refuge.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is snowshoeing hard?

Snowshoeing is an accessible activity for anyone in good health. It's essentially hiking on snow, with the snowshoes providing flotation and grip. Our guides always adapt the pace and route to the group's fitness level.

Do you wear your own shoes when snowshoeing?

Yes, snowshoes attach to your own footwear. You'll need sturdy, waterproof hiking boots or snow boots. Regular trainers won't provide enough warmth or ankle support.

Do I need walking poles for snowshoeing?

Poles are highly recommended for adults as they help with balance and reduce strain on your knees. Children can manage without. We provide poles free of charge for all our guided outings.

What about avalanche risk?

Our guides are trained in avalanche safety and carry rescue equipment. We carefully select routes based on current conditions and avalanche bulletins. Your safety is our priority—we may modify itineraries or cancel outings if conditions warrant.

What's the best time of year for snowshoeing in the French Alps?

The season typically runs from December to April, depending on snow conditions. January and February usually offer the most reliable snow cover. Our Southern Alps location means plenty of sunshine even in winter.
